Description

To perform practical nursing care or assist a registered nurse or physician in routine to complex situations in clinics, private homes, state institutions, or other environments; perform related work.

Regularly works on tasks that are varied and complex. Applies full range and job knowledge; frequently adapts procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet specialized needs; may serve as lead; performs broad and/or focused assignments under general supervision; originality and ingenuity are often required to help establish procedures in functional area; relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned tasks.

Example of Duties

+ Incumbents provide practical nursing care, health instruction, and charting and record keeping as it pertains to Licensed Practical Nursing described in the Nurse Practice Act, Idaho Code 54-1407.

+ Incumbents provide the full range of practical nurse functions including an emphasis on patient teaching and nursing/treatment plan follow-through which varies depending on the work setting. Incumbents deal with patients who are confused, disoriented, and may be hostile and aggressive.

Patient Care Services

+ Prepare patients for clinic visits performing vital sign check, rooming patient and preparing appropriately for visit

+ Perform duties including but not limited to EKG’s, ear lavage, nebulizer treatments, injections, assisting with minor procedures sterile/non-sterile.

+ Electronic documentation of patient encounters

+ Assist with training and mentoring of new LPN and RMA staff

+ Participate in educational in-services and opportunities for the LPN staff

+ Serve as a clinical resource for issues related to nursing care

+ Prepare for and assist clinicians with medical procedures

+ Provide patient education at the LPN level

+ Collect and process off-site medical laboratory specimens

+ Collect, process and interpret on-site laboratory specimens

+ Process pharmaceutical refills

+ Administer oral, injectable and specific IV medications and fluids

+ Place and maintain in
