The Idaho Humane Society currently has a part-time opening for an Animal Care Attendant. Animal Care Attendants have the primary responsibility for the daily care of all animals housed at the Idaho Humane Society, maintaining clean and orderly animal housing and employee work areas, maintaining the health and welfare of all animals in the care of the Society and proactively assisting the public.
Preferred candidates will have knowledge of health care, behavior, breeds, control and handling of dogs, cats, and other small animals. Candidates will also possess an understanding and recognition of common illnesses, diseases and injuries of animals, and knowledge of safe procedures for handling animals, or ability to quickly learn. Must have a positive attitude and be empathetic in difficult situations. Must be a high school graduate or educational equivalent. Must maintain a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record. Should possess strong interest in the mission of the Idaho Humane Society.
Work performed both in and out of shelter requires lifting, bending, stooping, pushing and other strenuous activities. Must have the ability to perform prolonged strenuous physical activity, including lifting and carrying a minimum of 50 pounds without assistance or up to 100 pounds with the help of fellow employees for short distances. Any allergic condition that would be aggravated from exposure or through contact with animals or chemicals used to sanitize facilities or equipment is a disqualification.
This position is part-time, approximately 20+ hours/week. All employees are expected to work days, evenings and weekends as assigned.
