The High Performance Computing organization within the Nuclear Science & Technology (NS&T) Directorate at INL is seeking a talented High Performance Computing Software Consultant/System Administrator to function as an effective interface between the High Performance Computing and Advanced Scientific Computing directorate organizations and the rest of the Lab.

Responsibilities Include:

HPC leadership at INL including understanding mission requirements and providing solutions for users

Mentor and develop new staff

Responsible for designing, defining, installing, configuring, debugging, troubleshooting, optimizing, and maintaining HPC supercomputers and supporting infrastructure.

Demonstrate leadership through good communication skills, creativity and positivity

Define system architecture and application configurations for HPC systems

Research, install, configure and maintain HPC system software

Research, install, configure, manage, and maintain cluster level software for queuing, allocations, and reporting

Research, install, configure and maintain 3rd party HPC applications

Research and diagnose system operational problems quickly and effectively

Coordinate with vendors to resolve hardware and software problems

Port computer code and write system management software tools

Support and maintain HPC system, software, and network security

Define and document procedures and tasks

Participate in a 24-hour, 7-day on-call support rotation and off-hours maintenance activities

Implement and integrate new systems

Perform system performance analysis and tuning

Provide user support & training

Support laboratory wide training and outreach activities with the purpose of increasing HPC adoption at INL

Support university training and outreach activities with the purpose of building HPC and computational science skills

Contribute to the enhanced reputation of HPC both at INL and regionally

Be familiar with data center design, cooling, power, and operations

Coordinate with HPC staff for bi-annual HPC maintenance/outages

Support high performance computing through the design of software, database, and web-based solutions to monitor and capture key HPC metrics

Support python programming language and modern web development frameworks, content management systems, relational databases, graphical toolkits, version control systems, and OS X/Linux system administration

Work effectively both independently and as a member of the team in computer science, scientific software engineering, and client/server programming

Take direction from other team members and peers, and also provide input in a constructive manner to others while maintaining a positive and professional relationship

Monitor application usage so availability of resources is constant and proactively adjusted to meet demands.

Consult with scientists and Engineers regarding their HPC work.

Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and the selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor and 2 years relevant experience or Masters and 1 year relevant experience or Doctorate degree. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

Experience in high performance computing

Positive customer service attitude and strong oral and written communication skills

Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Must be able to work in a culturally diverse environment

Preferred Requirements:

Expertise with MPI, OpenMP, and scripting languages

Programming proficiency with C, C++, and Fortran

Experience in writing, porting, debugging, analyzing, and optimizing parallel programs

Experience working with UNIX/Linux

In-depth understanding of batch queuing and scheduling

Demonstrated user support in scientific computing

Effective team builder at project or organizational level

Salary Grade: 210/220
