Job Description
The Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections Lewiston facility is now hiring for full-time Rehabilitation Technicians.
Rehabilitation Technician’s provide individual or group rehabilitative therapeutic services for delinquent youth and supervise youth in an assigned living unit. The ideal candidates are assertive individuals who are energized by working with youth. Our juveniles can be challenging, but the work is rewarding. Employees are required to model the behavior expected of the juveniles and influence them in their everyday work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Supervise and provide orientation to youth to insure compliance with institutional policies and procedures
•Intervene in confrontations between youth
•Monitor personal hygiene of youth and provide training
•Assign and supervise housekeeping duties
•Monitor recreational and social activities
•Implement treatment strategies developed by treatment teams and integrate daily living tasks with treatment goals
•Implement established intervention techniques and facilitate problem solving by youth
•Transport offenders to other facilities, outside appointments, and work or community service activities.
•Employees are responsible for supervision and control of physically hostile and aggressive youth who may present a hazard to life and property if appropriate intervention or security precautions are not followed. Individuals in this position are required to supervise personal hygiene activities including those involved toilet and shower. Schedules include weekend work and rotating shifts. Response to emergency situations within 30 minutes at all times is required. This position involves the ability to observe, hear and communicate orally with juveniles; intervene and control juveniles’ assaultive and aggressive behavior toward themselves and others; life, transfer and care for juveniles in emergency situations such as in fire evacuation from a two-story dormitory, or in an accident where first aid/CPR must be administered.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•Applicants must meet entrance requirements and become certified by the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Academy for the Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections.
•Good knowledge of individual and group behavior of youth
•Good knowledge of recreational activities for youth
•Experience instilling values and motivating youth in learning positive life skills
•Experience using a personal computer for online records.
•Willingness to: deal with violence, harassment, threats, verbal abuse; break up fights, control disturbances, and physically restrain offenders; perform searches for contraband and weapons; work alone unarmed among unrestricted offenders; work in a secure/locked facility in confined spaces; learn and follow department policies, procedures, rules, and instructions; set aside personal prejudices and be fair; work in high-stress, hostile environments; transport juveniles; become certified in CPR.
•Must meet federal PREA requirements.
