Job Description


The Senior Infrastructure Architect designs and develops IT infrastructure architecture solutions to business problems in alignment with the enterprise architecture direction and standards. The Senior Infrastructure Architect work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.


Humana is currently seeking an experienced, dedicated, and solution oriented VMware Infrastructure Solutions Architect to join our Systems Architect team. In this role, you will design or modify architecture/ procedure to solve complex requirements in VMware vSphere virtualization considering compute capacity, enhance performance, onboard newer/alternate virtualization technologies, best practices to achieve desired results. This role has broader exposure to drive information technology projects, modernize IT architecture through analysis of research, introducing changes based on evolving requirements, integrate industry trends, evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies and standards.


+ Design, configure, maintain, and test virtual servers utilizing the VMware vSphere suite.

+ Provide technical and procedural recommendations for migrating VM workloads from On-Prem to Cloud and vice versa.

+ 2 or more years of project leadership experience.

+ Ability to develop upgrade and migration plans for vCenter, vSphere, and sub-components.

+ Provide consulting and support to operations teams during migrations.

+ Strong engineering experience with the following core VMware vSphere services:

+ VMware vSphere ESXi, vCenter, vROPS, Lifecycle Manager

+ Advanced Administration of vSphere vMotion, HA, DRS, DPM, Fault Tolerance

+ vSphere datastores, RDM, vVOLS, NFS, Storage Integration using Native FC, iSCSI, NVMe-oF, NVMe-RoCE design and configuration

+ Software defined Storage using VMware VSAN and Cisco Springpath

+ vSphere Networking leveraging vSS/ vDS and knowledge in Software defined Networking like NSX-T and Cisco ACI

+ Scripting and automation using vSphere CLI, Powershell, JSON, etc

+ Hands on in VMware vSphere vCenter, ESXi installations, configurations, upgrades, host profile configurations, VM Templates, licensing, backup and recovery.

+ Troubleshooting VMware logs files, identifying problem and root cause analysis.

+ Engineering support for a multi-instance vRealize Operations Manager system utilizing a proxy model, develop policies and custom dashboards.

+ Prepare capacity planning and forecast analysis reports in vROPS and recommend best practices recommendation for infrastructure optimization.

+ Support diagnoses and troubleshooting of problems with the virtualization environment including Microsoft Windows and Linux O/S systems.

+ Data center networking fundamentals (experience with software defined data center networks a plus

+ Data center storage fundamentals (experience with SAN protocols and NAS protocols

+ Experience virtualizing enterprise applications (Active Directory, MS SQL, RHEL, etc.).

+ Identify process improvements that can be realized through using virtualization technologies and products.

+ Create High-level and Low-level design documentation and architecture for Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) solutions.

+ Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

Required Qualifications

+ Bachelor/ Master’s Degree in a Technical Field

+ DCV – VMware Certified Professional or Advanced Professional Certification

+ 6 or more years of infrastructure experience

+ 2 or more years of project leadership experience

+ Experience integrating new technologies with existing technologies.

+ Experience implementing technologies with enterprise-wide impact

+ Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

Preferred Qualifications

+ Experience with Tanzu Mission Control, Tanzu Service Mesh or any type of Kubernetes Service Mesh

+ Experience deploying and managing AKS, EKS, or GKE.

+ Ansible playbook configurations

+ Major cloud provider certification

+ Experience deploying IaC via CI/CD pipelines

+ Experience working in an Agile operating model

+ Hands on use with Terraform code

+ WAH requirements: Must have the ability to provide a high speed DSL or cable modem for a home office. Associates or contractors who live and work from home in the state of California will be provided payment for their internet expense.
