Lead Fisheries Technician - Lemhi IMW

Job Description

The incumbent will serve as a Fisheries Technician in IDFG’s Lemhi Effectiveness Monitoring Program in Salmon, Idaho.  This project monitors fishery response to restoration efforts in the Lemhi River basin to understand the effectiveness of various habitat actions, and help guide future restoration efforts through an adaptive management process.

 

Primary duties include:

  • Lead backpack electrofishing surveys
  • Handling, identifying, PIT-tagging salmonids (including ESA- listed fish)
  • Collecting biological data (weights, lengths, DNA, scales, etc.)
  • Data management (recording, organizing, and error checking in multiple databases)
  • Maintaining field equipment and assisting in PIT-tag array maintenance
  • Conducting spawning ground surveys (Chinook Salmon, Bull Trout, steelhead)

 

Additional duties include:

  • Operating rotary screw traps and Bull Trout weirs
  • Working independently and with a crew
  • Assisting with regional fisheries management projects throughout the region when needed (gillnetting, snorkeling, raft electrofishing)

 

 

Note: Must accommodate a flexible schedule (holidays, weekends, 2-5 over nights at the end of the season), willing to stay in travel trailers and/or camp in semi-remote areas, work in adverse weather conditions, and be willing to work for 10 consecutive days. Housing is not provided. However, some accomidations can be met. This is a benefited position not to exceed 1385 hours.
