Job Summary/Qualifications: The Caldwell Fire Department is seeking to hire highly qualified individuals for the position of entry-level firefighter, lateral firefighter, and paramedic firefighter. Firefighters are expected to perform a wide variety of tasks, including structure fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical care, vehicle extrication, fire prevention, equipment maintenance, and wildland fire suppression. The job of a firefighter is physically and mentally demanding; firefighters must be in excellent physical and mental condition throughout their career. Firefighters must be committed to working well with a diverse group of coworkers and community members. Lateral, paramedic, and entry-level applicants are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Requirements to Apply ● High School Graduate or General Education Certificate (GED) ● Nationally registered EMT-B OR Idaho state EMT-B or higher (Proof of Idaho state EMT required by the end of academy). ● Valid Driver’s License and driving record without major infractions or suspension/revocation (driving records will be checked in all 50 states). ● Applicants must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. ● Must be 18 years of age or older.
Benefits: Caldwell firefighters are provided some of the best available health insurance through the Northwest Firefighters Benefits Trust (NWFFT), which includes vision and dental coverage. Firefighters are provided a Medical Expense Reimbursement Plan (MERP) and may choose to continue their health insurance post-retirement through NWFFT. Other benefits are included, including a comprehensive annual physical. Caldwell firefighters participate in the PERSI retirement system, rated one of the top retirement programs in the country. Firefighters may participate in a 401k match program, wherein the city will match a 5.0% contribution by the member with an additional 8.2%. Other retirement options, such as a 457b account, are available.
