Position Purpose:
Provide System Engineering support to the ICP Sodium Bearing Waste Integrated Waste Treatment Unit (IWTU). Apply System Engineering concepts and principles to assigned system(s) through design, construction, testing, start-up, and operations to assure operability, safety basis compliance, and configuration management in accordance with Company procedures and policies.
In general, serve as system engineer for (a) safety significant structures, systems, and components (SSC) as defined in applicable documented safety analysis (DSA), (b) SSCs that perform important defense-in-depth functions, and (c) other SSCs when designated by line management. Use an approach as provided by ICP procedures, that is tailored to facility hazards and the SSCs relied upon to prevent or mitigate those hazards, to applying the system engineering program requirements to assigned SSCs.
Minimum Qualification Requirements (Education/Experience):
Engineer, Associate: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering plus 2 years of relevant experience
Engineer II: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering plus 4 years of relevant experience
Engineer III: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering plus 6 years relevant experience
Special Requirements/Training:
Baccalaureate in Engineering or related science.
Position Responsibilities
Use configuration management and related tools to ensure operational readiness of assigned SSCs in accordance with facility requirements as follows:
Compile and keep current SSC design basis documentation and supporting documents through formal change control and work control processes.
Identify key documents and identify or develop other documents to support facility safety basis development and documentation.
Review assigned SSCs for operability, reliability, and material condition, including assessments.
Support maintenance and repair activities on assigned systems.
Identify and justify preventive maintenance or a run-to-failure strategy.
Develop and support testing of assigned systems following modifications and repairs.
Provide input and review facility work orders for assigned systems.
Ensure that the unreviewed safety question (USQ) process is applied to assigned SSCs.
Remain apprised of operational status and ongoing modification activities.
Assist operations review of key SSC parameters and evaluate SSC performance. Additionally conduct System Health Assessments.
Initiate actions to correct problems and provide troubleshooting direction.
Provide assistance in determining operability, correcting out-of-specification conditions, and evaluating questionable data.
Provide or support analysis when the SSC is suspected of inoperability degradation.
Serve as the Design Authority (Technical Expert) of assigned systems
Complete special short and long-term work tasks when assigned by management.
Maintain training current with employee’s individual training plan.
