Job Description
The Waste Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining a wastewater treatment plant to ensure efficient and compliant wastewater treatment. This includes operating equipment, monitoring processes, collecting and testing samples, and maintaining records. They also play a role in emergency response and ensuring compliance with regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Controlling pumps, valves, and other machinery to manage wastewater flow and treatment processes.
- Gathering wastewater samples at various stages of treatment and conducting laboratory tests to assess water quality.
- Adding chemicals like chlorine and other disinfectants to control bacteria and other contaminants.
- Performing routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on plant equipment.
- Following safety procedures, adhering to state and federal regulations, and maintaining records.
- Implementing emergency response protocols in case of spills, equipment malfunctions, or other incidents.
- Using mathematical formulas to calculate flow rates, detention times, and other process parameters.
- Keeping detailed records of plant operations, test results, and maintenance activities.
- May assist with cleaning buildings, grounds, and equipment, as well as painting.
- Must have computer knowledge.
- Performs other related duties as required.
