Job Description
This is a seasonal position within the Parks & Recreation Department.
- Placement on the Seasonal Pay Scale and associated steps relate directly to position, qualifications, and experience with the City of Pocatello.
- Employment with the City of Pocatello is contingent on passing a background check.
The Outdoor Recreation Program Instructor II provides customer service, program instruction, education, and guidance to various patrons. This position requires applicants to be 17 years of age or older.
The job may require successful completion of a background check. The job requires the ability to maintain a collaborative and cooperative working relationship with elected and appointed officials, other City employees, other organizations, and the general public. Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, in wet and humid conditions, with areas of dust, odors, mist, gases or other airborne matter. Employees work in/at places where they are exposed to mechanical hazards. This position works: days, evenings, and weekends as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Spring/Summer/Fall: Serves as Instructor for groups in various programs in watersports, climbing, youth adventure programs, disc golf, environmental education, and hiking activities. Duties include planning and leading programs, maintaining equipment, and serving as facility point of contact. Applicants 18 years of age or older may transport participants in a City Vehicle. Duties also include Fun Run and other large event support including course marking, course marshaling, registration, setup/takedown, and other related duties.
- Winter: Additional duties include conducting ski lessons, maintaining equipment, and serving as facility point of contact. Duties also include serving as a climbing wall attendant and leading group climbing wall programs.
- The job may carry-out long-term assigned projects and ongoing facility maintenance tasks. This position requires customer service and cash-handling skills. Applicable certifications required, including Wilderness First Aid and CPR are required, which are provided by the department after hire.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
- Applicants must be 17years of age or older to apply;
- Applicants 18 years of age or older may transport participants in a City Vehicle;
- High school diploma or GED;
- Basic First Aid certification may be required;
- Wilderness First Aid certification may be required.
- CPR certification required.
- Idaho Driver’s license is required.
An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
