The Driver Education coordinator represents the Idaho State Department of Education (SDE) in a professional capacity, providing technical assistance to public schools for their driver education programs. This position enhances the quality of driver education services in Idaho through educational training, communications, resources, workshops, and conferences.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Advocate the importance of driver education for the safety of Idaho’s young drivers and roadway users with stakeholders.
+ Serve as a point of contact for student and parent needs related to navigating the driver education system.
+ Provide technical assistance related to Idaho Code, rules, policies, procedures, and budgets associated with the driver education program.
+ Serve as a liaison and board member to committees and organizations related to driver education.
+ Prepare, facilitate, and provide administrative support to the Idaho Driver Education Advisory Committee.
+ Support and administer necessary contracts for program initiatives.
+ Plan, organize, and execute required professional development, including regional workshops, state conferences or online training for Idaho driver education instructors.
+ Oversee the Idaho Department of Education New Instructor Certification Course.
+ Review and approve qualifications for driver education instructors within a public school.
+ Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate Idaho’s driver education course student curriculum, online curriculum, and teacher instructor curriculum.
+ Provide support to driver education teacher certification classes and programs to ensure there are sufficient teachers and classes available.
+ Oversee and maintain documentation and databases for efficient retrieval of instructor, program, and financial information related to the driver education program.
+ Conduct reviews and evaluations of driver education programs; including but not limited to classroom, behind-the-wheel, financial, and student record keeping ensuring compliance of Idaho statute and state board rules.
+ Prepare and oversee annual budget allocations for programs.
+ Review and approve public school claims for reimbursements.
+ Answer inquiries from schools, students, families, and DMV staff regarding Idaho’s driver education requirements.
+ Review and approve or deny out-of-state driver education training and permit transfers into Idaho.
+ Maintain a variety of records and files as required by the SDE and state law, including reports: website information, applications, manuals and web applications.
+ Partner and collaborate with program specialist in managing workload and program needs.
+ Work cooperatively with the Student Engagement and other teams on shared projects.
+ Develop a process to review and approve online curriculum for parent taught driver education
+ Perform other related duties as assigned.
+ Provide systems improvement to driver education communications, workflow and customer experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Program or project management experience
+ An Associate’s degree or higher related to Communications, English, Public Administrations, Education or other related fields.
+ Strong public relations, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
+ Knowledge and experience preparing and presenting information in trainings, workshops, and related educational settings.
+ Familiarity with data reporting and compliance documentation.
+ Strong organizations and time management skills.
+ Knowledge of Idaho’s K-12 education system.
+ Microsoft program proficiency, particularly using Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
+ Applicants must possess a valid class A-D driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:(Extra consideration may be given for the following)
+ Knowledge of laws and regulations as they relate to driver education, traffic law, and vehicle code.
+ A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
+ Current driver education instructor license.
+ Two or more years of driver education teaching and/or program experience.
+ Conference and event planning.
+ Bilingual (especially Spanish).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: ( with or without reasonable accommodation )
This position requires the ability to perform the following physical and job-related tasks:+ Operate standard office equipment such as a computer, telephone, copier, and scanner.
+ Perform general administrative duties including typing, filing, answering phones, processing paperwork, and assembling office materials.
+ Read, review, and process both printed and digital documents.
+ Navigate websites and online systems; identify and respond to safety concerns; greet and assist visitors.
+ Maintain focus and attention to detail for extended periods.
+ Understand, communicate, and follow through on program support tasks and responsibilities.
+ Approximately 95% of time is spent sitting at a desk or workstation, up to 4 hours at a time.
+ Approximately 5% of time is spent standing, walking, bending, or kneeling.
+ Occasionally lift items, typically weighing under 5 lbs., and occasionally up to 20 lbs.
TRAVEL REQUIRED:
Approximately 10% travel both in and out of state for training, meetings, conferences, and monitoring. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.BENEFITS:

They are appointed by the elected official and serve at the pleasure of the elected official. As such, employees working at a non-classified agency are considered vested in the PERSI retirement system after five (5) consecutive months of service, versus five (5) years of service at a classified agency.
