Job Description

The devices we make at SEL are embedded in the power grid. They prevent blackouts. They make outages safer and shorter in duration; they add cybersecurity, automation, and communication. They use cutting-edge technologies and operate at speeds that push other pieces of the grid to go faster. As an Engineering Intern in Engineering Services, you'll provide solutions and services that help our customers protect and control critical electrical infrastructure and power systems worldwide.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide technical support to SEL staff & customers.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge in SEL processes and technologies.
  • Perform testing on new and existing technology.
  • Assist engineers with electrical enclosure and test rack creation.
  • Develop simulators and perform test for customer automation systems.
  • Assist with HMI creation.
  • Assist with PLC programming.
  • Perform research into and testing on new tools and technologies.
  • Develop software-bast tools to improve project efficiency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • The ability to work onsite in Boise, ID full-time in the summer & part-time during the school year.
  • Experience in programming and script files
  • Practical knowledge of 3-phase power systems
  • Working knowledge of emulators and logic analyzers
  • Ability to use MS Windows and serial port terminal emulation software
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL & negative drug test result(s)

This position is located in Boise, ID, capital of the gem state, and on the Boise River in the southwestern part of the state. You will enjoy local restaurants in a vibrant downtown full of small businesses, easy access to mountain foothills and 190 miles of trails. Pay Range Data

$19.50 - $32.50 per hour. Our intern pay is determined based on the internship role (the work you would be doing) and your year in school (when you plan to graduate).
