Job Description
Starting wage is $21.74 an hour; more possible depending on experience! New Applicant age requirement has been reduced to 18 years old!
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- receiving, searching, booking, photographing, fingerprinting and securing arrested people
- provide a safe and clean environment for inmates, as well as dispense medication as required by a physician, log/document personal property, process payments, complete arrest files, distribute mail, answer phone calls, and perform security checks.
- provide security for inmates, personnel, and the courtroom.
- supervise preparation of meals, duties of trustees, cleaning, work release, and visitation.
- Transportation of inmates to medical destinations and other secure facilities
- May aid county road patrol in transporting inmates.
- Provide reports of incidents, collect evidence, and testify in court.
- Prepare notice of inmate and jail violations, ensuring an orderly flow of facts and actions in the interest of prisoners and the Sheriff’s Office.
- Knowledge of dispatch and general office duties if called upon or replace dispatch personnel.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
Applicants must have effective communication and clerical skills; a high school diploma or GED; and a valid driver’s license. Applicants cannot have used illegal drugs in the past five years. Applicants must pass a pre-employment polygraph exam, psychological evaluation, medical evaluation, physical fitness test, firearms qualification, and random drug testing. Applicants must also attend, complete, and pass the Idaho POST Detention academy within one year of hire.
