Position Title:  Industrial Hygienist

Work Location: Site – RWMC/AMWTP

Shift Schedule: Monday-Thursday 4x10s with the possibility of holiday and weekend coverage

Salary Grade: 15 Salary Range Min $75,815 Mid $96,870 Max $117,695           

Salary Grade: 17 Salary Range Min $96,265 Mid $123,345 Max $150,420         

 

Position Purpose:

Performs safety and health functions as assigned by management. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:

Provides industrial hygiene (IH) support to ICP Projects as assigned. Identifies, interprets, and assists management in the implementation of industrial hygiene functional requirements. Tasks may include but are not limited to participating in initial task/activity/process design and development; review of drawings and plans; physical walk-downs of tasks/jobsites/facilities; collection of exposure measurements using IH equipment. Work assignments may include support of shop work, hazardous waste operations, construction, and office/administrative settings. Evaluates effectiveness of controls. Provides feedback to management to ensure implementation of requirements to meet regulatory and contractual requirements. Performs assessments to evaluate compliance with requirements. Develops solutions to complex problems, applying ingenuity, innovation, and creativity. Must be able to work effectively under self-direction, including prioritizing tasks and assignments. Supports Company goals for operational excellence, Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), and Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS).

 

Minimum Qualification Requirements (Education/Experience):

Baccalaureate degree in IH from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)-accredited IH/safety degree program.

OR

Baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, or a closely related biological or physical science from an accredited college or university, with at least 60 semester hours of science, math, engineering, or science-based technology (15 hours at the junior, senior, or graduate level), and who also has a minimum of 1 year of IH experience.

This is a multi-level posting and the successful candidate will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills. At the Idaho Environmental Coalition, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

Salary Grade 15: Bachelor’s Degree, or eight years directly relevant experience, plus 2 years relevant experience.

Salary Grade 17: Bachelor’s Degree, or eight years directly relevant experience,  plus 8 years relevant experience.

 

Effective Monday, May 12, 2025, REAL ID-compliant driver's licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent) is required to gain access to all IEC and INL facilities (such as in-person interviews, medical & pre-employment drug screening, and for new employee orientation). If you are not sure if your ID complies with REAL ID, check with your state department of motor vehicles.

  • Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC)

 

Special Requirements/Training:

Must be able to obtain an ICP qualification as an industrial hygienist. Education must meet American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) criteria for eligibility to take the ABIH Certified Industrial Hygienist examination.

 

Position Responsibilities:

Identify, analyze and mitigate chemical and physical hazards through application of basic industrial hygiene principles, theories and concepts. Seek input and support of other safety related disciplines as needed. Follow work control processes in MCP-101, MCP-3562 and other company procedures. Participate in planning and reviewing work activities. Review and approve work control documents. Serve on Hazard Evaluation Groups as assigned.

Provide technical support to line management regarding implementation of industrial hygiene requirements per Company procedures and regulatory/contractual requirements through application of industrial hygiene principles. Use ingenuity, innovation and creativity to develop solutions to complex problems.

Attend pre-job briefings; observe activities and work areas during task performance. Collect samples to evaluate worker exposures using appropriate methods and equipment. Evaluate exposures against appropriate occupational exposure limits. Document exposure assessments in accordance with company requirements and sound industrial hygiene principles. Address industrial hygiene concerns and issues with employees. Provide feedback on work processes on observed industrial hygiene issues.

Review/develop Project, task and/or facility-level documents to ensure industrial hygiene requirements are identified and implemented. Participate in assessments/reviews as assigned. Review and comment on Company industrial hygiene documents.

Review new/modified systems, structures and components. Provide industrial hygiene-related design criteria requirements; review design of new/modified facilities. Attend design/project meetings as needed.

Prepare work status reports as requested. Status accomplishments to objectives or assignments. Meet periodically with management to discuss work performance and activities.

Attend required training, professional development meetings and safety meetings commensurate with position responsibilities.
