Benefited Biological Aide (1) – Hayspur Fish Hatchery

Employment Dates: 01/06/2026 - 4/24/2026

SPECIAL NOTIFICATION: This position is exempt from classified state service and the rules of the Division of Human Resources and the Idaho Personnel Commission. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking a Research Data Technician. This position will be located at Hayspur Fish Hatchery located in Bellevue, ID. This is a 3.5-month (non-benefited) position. Primary duties of the selected candidate will consist of spawning Rainbow trout, rearing duties associated with Rainbow trout and Brook trout, and general maintenance duties. This temporary position is expected to work 40 hours per week. Housing is available for the employee only. No pets.

General Information:

This position may perform spawning, activities that include variable schedules, working under adverse weather conditions, driving for long distances, stand and work in cold water, hitch and pull trailers. Operation of tractors, landscaping equipment, and/or UTV’s. Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required. Incumbents working at fish hatcheries may work around toxic chemicals and heavy dust, high voltage, loud noises, and slippery services.

Responsibilities:

Fish Production: Assist with spawning activities; collect spawning data in the field and at fish hatcheries; manage databases and enter spawning data into databases; assist with fish hatchery daily tasks.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be able to work well in a team environment and independently as needed, take direction and follow protocols effectively, and handle responsibility. Applicants must be well organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and safety conscious. Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. Fish hatchery or fisheries related experience is strongly preferred but not required.
