Performs cardiac ultrasound examinations and all related ultrasound duties. Provides care to patients for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatment of anatomic and physiologic disorders. Works with patients of all ages.

 

Essential Job Functions:

    • Maintains a high quality of patient care; positions and handles patients with a high degree of professional ethics, care, tact, courtesy, patience and safety.

 

    • Greets and introduces self to patient and describes nature and time requirements of requested exams.

 

    • Keeps room and work area neat and orderly. Maintains and rotates supplies/inventory. Keeps work area stocked.

 

    • Organizes, plans and directs activities relating to patients and procedures for designated area/room.

 

    • Identifies problems and communicates to the imaging director; offers solutions when appropriate.

 

    • Checks the order for history/special instructions. Furnishes cardiologist or treating physician with the patient's history on worksheet or assessment sheet. Completes all paperwork where applicable.

 

    • Maintains good working relationship with radiologist-communicates/consults with radiologist regarding examinations as necessary.

 

    • Performs specific duties requested by the Radiology Managers.

 

    • Attends regularly scheduled departmental meetings, staff in-service education and training programs.

 

    • Assumes responsibility for proper and efficient operation of all the echo equipment used; reports malfunctions and the need for adjustments or repairs to the service engineer.

 

    • Assists in the movement of patients to and from wheelchairs and carts onto tables/gurneys to complete exams.

 

    • Travels to other sites/locations to perform tests as scheduled.

 

    • Continuing education credits, accreditations and certifications are current at all times.

 

    • Follows hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.

 

    • Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times.  Follows HIPAA regulations and policies.

 

    • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function.

 

    • Communicate with patients, families and co-workers in person, in writing and on telephone.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

    • Graduate of an accredited echocardiography (non-invasive cardiovascular) program.
    • 3-5 years of previous experience is preferred.
    • Knowledge of PACS is preferred.
