PROGRAM SUMMARY:

Global Gardens, a program of the Idaho Office for Refugees and Jannus, Inc., empowers farmers from refugee backgrounds and those facing economic or linguistic barriers to grow food and access entrepreneurial opportunities. The program connects farmers to CSA members, wholesale buyers, and farmers markets while fostering community engagement and cultural exchange. The West Bench Farmers Market is a special project that expands access to market channels for an increasing number of Global Gardens farmers

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The West Bench Farmers Market Manager position entails managerial responsibility for the West Bench Farmers Market under the leadership of the Global Gardens Program Director. The Market Manager role emphasizes permitting, vendor and volunteer recruitment and management, marketing and communication, and community engagement.

SCHEDULE:

Seasonal Position (March through May)

Hours: 20 Hours per week

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties recorded below are representative of the duties of the class and are not intended to cover all the duties performed by incumbents(s) of any particular position.

  • Market Vision and Community Experience: Ensure a vibrant market experience that benefits the community; serve as on-site point person for set-up and take-down, logistics, safety, emergencies, and stakeholder relations.
  • Permitting and Compliance - Oversee permitting processes and ongoing documentation with: City of Boise Special Events, Central District Health, State of Idaho Tax Commission, and Boise Police and Fire Departments and others to ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
  • Budget and Sales Oversight – Operate market within allocated budget, oversee processing of vendor fees, and implementation and management of SNAP and Double-up Food Bucks programs.
  • Vendor Management and Relations - Manage vendor applications, vet documentation, and assign booth placements using MarketWurks, track sales and attendance. Develop and communicate vendor expectations and safety requirements; enforce standards, including implementing suspensions or expulsions when necessary. Lead vendor coalition meetings and at least three vendor meet-ups per season; solicit feedback and implement improvements.
  • Volunteer and Intern Management - Recruit, coordinate, and manage 5–15 volunteers weekly; develop roles, shifts, and responsibilities; maintain sign-up systems and timely communication.
  • Marketing and Communications – Manage and update the WBFM website and social media platforms, design and commission signage, branding materials, and community-facing communications (t-shirts, flyers, stickers, market maps).
  • Entertainment Coordination – Coordinate performance calendar and compensation.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Genuine interest and support of Jannus’ mission, vision, and values. Integrating these concepts into daily activities to create healthy workplace environments.
  • Previous experience in market management, event coordination, or related operations.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building and conflict resolution skills; experience with multicultural and vulnerable communities preferred.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and quality assurance practices.
  • Proficiency in digital tools for scheduling, data tracking, and communications (e.g., MarketWurks, MS Office).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment with professionalism and autonomy.
  • Valid Idaho driver’s license and ability to pass background checks.
  • Access to a vehicle that can be used to support market set-up and take-down

 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

  • None required.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Works in a general office environment and in an outdoor market space.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work outdoors in seasonal conditions.
  • Safely lift up to 50 pounds.
