Job Description
Dates of Need: 3/30/2026-11/20/2026. This application encompasses the growing, maintaining, and harvesting of wheat, corn, grapes, sugar beets, and potatoes. This job requires a minimum of 3 months’ experience for agricultural equipment operators. The lifting requirement for this position is 60 pounds. All other duties assigned.
Workers will need a valid driver’s license (Note: a CDL is not required for this job) and be insurable to transport workers, equipment, or crops. During harvest, workers will be driving harvest vehicles and may have the opportunity to work night shifts. Must be able to perform all duties within this job description in what can be considered a safe manner adhering to all established farm safety guidelines, practices and procedures.
Grapes:
•Grape Training
Workers will walk through vineyards to train grapes to cordon wire, in addition to thinning, trimming, and watering grapes as needed.
Placing plant protection cartons around young vines with a bamboo stake securing the vine and bamboo to wire as needed.
Moving wire up and down as needed for the season.
This includes but is not limited to shoot thinning, sucker thinning, leaf thinning, and other canopy management practices.
•Pull unnecessary leaves off the crop to allow sunlight on grapes
•Repair trellis by splicing wire together, fixing wire notches to hold wires, remove broken posts, and replace with new posts. Workers will use tools and supplies provided.
•Provide general labor to assist in the establishment of new vineyard properties by clearing property, installing trellis, preparing, and spreading of composted material and any other labor considered necessary for the efficient structure of new vineyard properties.
•Assist in vineyard removal. Removal of vineyards may include, but not limited to the use of pruners, or tractors to remove limbs, trunks, and roots. This also includes, but is not limited to removing cut wood, removing irrigation equipment, trellis posts, and removing other refuse and debris from the field.
•Removing; by hand, with handheld tools, or using tractor mounted equipment; weeds underneath trellis and trees and around farm properties
•Weeding, hoeing, trunk painting, trunk girdling, hand fertilizing and growth selection by hand and clipping.
•Caring for vines during growing season.
Irrigation Duties:
Hand Lines:
1.Connect pipes
2.Check the alignment of pipe and adjust for proper water distribution
3.Attach lines to water supply
4.Turn on pump
5.Turn valves to start flow of water
6.Disassemble lines and carry pipes out of field if spray is needed, or pipes need to be moved out the way and return them back when done
7.Lift and carry pipe sections weighing approximately 60 pounds on a sustained basis.
Pivots:
1.Push on switch that activates circle sprinkler system.
2.Use shovel to dig out pivot tracks.
3.Clear plugged “birdies” or nozzles
4.Repair/replace any broken “birdies” or nozzles
5.Clear end guns and maintain them in good working order
6.Repair/replace gear boxes, pivot tires, or any necessary equipment failures to keep the pivot in working order.
Other Irrigation Duties:
1.Remove pipes/handlines lines from storage and lay out/place in predetermined patterns in fields
2.Lubricate, adjust, repair, and replace parts such as sprinkler heads and drive chains using hand tools
3.Observe revolving sprinklers and adjust to ensure proper operation and uniform distribution of water
4.Disassemble, service, and store pipe/mainlines/handlines after irrigation season.
5.Turn on and check drip lines in vineyard.
1.Flush system or lines as needed,
2.Repair leaks
3.Ensure drip lines are properly secured to wires.
•Monitoring vine diseases such as blight, fungus, etc.
•Irrigation duties include but are not limited to inspecting irrigation systems for leaks and damage prior to and during irrigation times. Flush irrigation lines as needed, make repairs as needed and install new or replacement parts. Installation and repair of irrigation systems may include and
is not limited to digging trenches to put in new pipe or valves. Digging out broken pipe/valves to repair broken pipe or valves. Using PVC glue and primer.
•Harvest:
The worker will pick according to grade, color, and size by grasping fruit with their hands and removing it from the vines in a motion that will not harm the vines.
The worker will carry the harness, bucket or bag and will place the fruit into lugs or bins.
The worker must always exercise care to prevent bruising of fruit or breaking of branches/shoots/canes.
The workers are expected to use provided handheld scissor-like clippers to harvest grapes.
Worker’s Job Duties:
1.Operate or maintain equipment used in agricultural production and field preparation such as tractors, irrigation equipment, 4-wheelers, trucks (NOT SEMI-TRUCKS), and other commonly used equipment in agriculture.
2.Workers may also operate or tend equipment used in agricultural production and field preparation such as tractors, irrigation equipment and other commonly used equipment in agriculture and drive vehicles to transport farm workers, crop and equipment.
3.Workers may also clear debris and garbage from fields and clean/maintain farm buildings, structures, equipment, and work areas.
4.Load and mix chemicals to spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, pests, fungus, weed growth, and diseases, using hand sprayers (backpack sprayers) and/or 4-wheeler sprayer.
5.Pest control using baits and traps and other methods for pocket gophers, voles, and other rodents/pests.
6.May operate, maintain, and repair tractors and other farm machinery.
7.Wash equipment to clean away debris from fields.
8.Drive/ operate water farm truck to wet down roads and reduce dust in harvest areas.
Workers’ job duties may require split shifts (e.g. 5:00 am to 10:00am and 5:00pm to 8:00pm), as well as night shifts due to crop demands. Work hours may vary were there are periods when extra hours are offered and periods of reduced hours are available due to weather, crop conditions, and time of year. The anticipated hours listed represent the normal work schedule. Due to the nature of these crops, weather, and the requirement to send crops to customers when needed, it is the prevailing practice to work more or different hours than those listed. A worker may be offered more than the specified hours of work; however, the worker will not be required to work for more than the number of hours specified in the job order, or on the worker’s Sabbath or Federal holidays. Saturday work may be required. Workday start times vary depending on the weather, the time of year, hours of daylight, and production requirements. Workers must be able to work varying shifts as required by the season and work performed. Workers are notified of any change in the start times. Work may be performed during rain, light snow, cold, freezing temperatures and/or in high humidity and in temperatures over a 100 degrees F. Worker may be required to work in fields when crops are wet with dew/rain and should have suitable clothing for variable weather conditions.
Workers must possess the requisite physical strength and endurance to repeat the harvest process throughout the workday. Workers must work at a sustained, vigorous pace and make Bonafide efforts to work efficiently and consistently that are reasonable under the climatic and all other working conditions. Workers may never ride on agricultural equipment not designed for work-related riding purposes or any other non-passenger-intended equipment unless instructed and authorized by the employer or supervisor to do so. All work-related injuries must be immediately reported to the crew leader, foreman, or supervisor. An employer-paid drug test is required if a worker has an accident at work. If light duty work is assigned for a worker’s compensation injury, the worker will be expected to return to work and perform the light duty work upon advice from a physician and the worker's compensation insurance company.
Full Growing Season Commitment: The job offered requires that the worker be available for work every day that work is available for the full period of employment. The worker agrees to be available for work and performs the assigned work for the assigned employer whenever work is available through the full period of employment.
Training: There will be a demonstration period to familiarize workers with job specifications and to demonstrate proper harvest methods and other crop-specific issues such as particular grading and or sizing.
