Job Summary

Responsible for obtaining and reporting laboratory results in an accurate and efficient manner as outlined in the laboratory policy and procedure manual.

Essential Job Functions

• Conduct chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood and urine, using microscope or automatic analyzer to detect abnormalities or diseases, and enter findings into computer.
• Set up, adjust, maintain and clean medical laboratory equipment
• Analyze the results of tests and experiments to ensure conformity to specifications, using special mechanical and electrical devices.
• Conduct blood tests for transfusion purposes and perform blood counts.
• Obtain specimens, cultivating, isolating and identifying microorganisms for analysis.
• Examine cells stained with dye to locate abnormalities.
• Collect blood or tissue samples from patients, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood sample.
• Consult with a pathologist to determine a final diagnosis when abnormal cells are found.
• Perform and report laboratory tests in an accurate and efficient manner to assure patients are treaded knowledgably.
• Communicate clearly and record accurately any orders received via the telephone to assure the correct tests are performed and diagnosis are recorded. 
• At all times prioritize and organize work to assure turnaround times are acceptable.
• Operate and perform periodic maintenance on all laboratory instrumentation to assure proper performance.
• Rotate call and work weekends as assigned to ensure 24hr/7dy coverage of the department.  Participate in mandatory training on EHR and Empower (Time & Attendance) and demonstrate basic competency in the functions applicable to the role
• Must be able to work effectively with all hospital departments and providers offices.
• Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times to ensure the hospital runs smoothly.
• Position requires access to highly confidential information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• Completion of an acceptable Medical Technology Bachelor's degree program and accreditation through AMT or ASCP.
• Possess a current license to perform laboratory testing.
• Position requires a minimum of two years' experience working in a hospital setting as a generalist with experience in Microbiology, Bood Banking, Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, and Phlebotomy.

Skills/Competencies

• Must have good auditory, verbal and written ability.
• Must be able to hear and understand verbal orders.
