Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Medical Director(s) and /or Director of Imaging Services, Cardio Echo Sonographer functions as the clinical and technical expert in Echocardiographic Imaging.  Responsible for the oversight of the unregistered sonographers performing cardiac echo sonography, ensuring quality of images, appropriate technique and adherence to approved protocols.  Makes recommendations to Imaging leadership regarding equipment and staffing needs. Leads accreditation processes. 

  • Responsible for the oversight of Tri State Health echocardiographic services, ensuring quality of images. Accountable for creation, oversight, and application of scanning protocols and quality measures following the guidelines of ASE or IAC.
  • Functions as the clinical, technical, Advanced Practice expert in Cardiac Sonographic Imaging for Imaging department.
  • Acts as a clinical resource and mentor to staff. Facilitates the advancement of clinical practice within the echocardiography service line though individual or group educational plans, as indicated. Develops programs to educate and train new staff in new sonographic techniques and assures staff competencies.
  • Provides echocardiographic related education to Tri State Health providers and staff, cardiac sonography students, other departments, agencies, and the public, as needed.
  • Assists department Director with the budget process through human resource needs identification and makes recommendations regarding acquisition and implementation of new equipment, as well as plans for normal upgrading and replacement of Sonography related equipment.
  • Contributes to the annual performance evaluation process by providing competency assessments/evaluation to the area leader relative to the technical expertise of the individual sonographers.
  • Ensures echocardiography functions are within compliance with professional Scope of Practice, accreditation and regulatory standards.
  • Facilitates staff and leadership team communication.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 ABILITY AND KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Sonography, Vascular and Cardiac anatomy and physiology
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and disease processes.
  • Ability to operate ultrasound equipment utilizing a variety of techniques, including M-mode, two-dimensional, pulsed and continuous wave Doppler flow mapping.
  • Ability to perform general, cardiac and vascular sonographic examinations, recognizing the significance of all structures visualized.
  • Competent in and demonstrates ability to perform all routine sonography, vascular and echocardiographic procedures, including complex studies requiring critical thought.
  • Ability to implement Safety policies and practice safe procedures
  • Ability to make knowledgeable clinical assessments and judgements
  • Knowledge of hospital or department policies and functions of other departments

Education and Training:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or related field, preferred. Commensurate experience will be considered.

Licensures/ Certifications:

  • Minimum Required: American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography – Registered Sonographer and willing to obtain RDCS within 1year.
  • Current BLS

Experience:

  •  2 years of clinical experience
