CITY OF SHOSHONE
PUBLIC WORKS CREW MEMBER JOB DESCRIPTION
AUTHORITY
City Crew Member is hired by the Mayor and Maintenance Supervisor to work along with the existing members of the city crew in maintaining the working functions and appearance of the City of Shoshone.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED is required.
Knowledge of and ability to safely operate heavy equipment such as loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, sanders, street sweepers, lawn mowers, etc. Candidate must have or be able to obtain a CDL within 3 months of employment.
Will be required to obtain water and/or wastewater certifications within the first two years of employment with the City of Shoshone.
Must be physically able to dig trenches and perform other manual labor tasks. Have the ability to lift up to 100 pounds repeatedly, climb ladders, and work in high or enclosed places.
Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Candidate must possess excellent customer service skills and be a cheerful and productive team player.
2. Candidate will be working in construction, maintenance and repair of City streets and bridges. Candidate will plow snow and work in inclement weather.
3. Candidate will be required to work in construction, maintenance and repair of water and sewer systems. Certification in water or wastewater will be required within the first two years of employment.
4. Will be required to attend workshops and schools as necessary for certifications and other training.
5. Applicant will be expected to learn all job aspects of City Maintenance Crew and be willing to fill in during absences of other city crew members.
6. Candidate must have the ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment and vehicles in a safe and conscientious manner. Candidate must have a CDL or obtain one within 3 months of being hired if candidate does not already have a CDL.
7. Candidate will be required to operate power tools. Also, it would be a plus if candidate knew how to weld.
8. Candidate will be on-call 24 hours in emergencies, on call every 5th weekend and during special events. Must live within a 30-minute response time to the City.
9. The City of Shoshone is a drug-free workplace and therefore all Safety Sensitive and CDL qualified employees must submit to random drug testing. Refusal of random drug testing may result in immediate termination of employment.
10. Computer skills are required in some aspects of the job, so candidate needs to have at least basic computer skills.
11. Candidate must perform all assignments and duties in a safe, responsible and conscientious manner.
Competitive salary will be dependent on experience and certifications.
