This position:
+ Requires a portfolio, or link to one, to be submitted with resume and cover letter
+ Creates, designs, and develops visually impactful and engaging material from often complex information
+ Designs in various media ranging from print to web, with particular expertise in print design and production
+ Flexible schedule, up to 19 hours a week
+ Works independently with significant creativity and under general supervision
Essential Functions
+ Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Is capable of performing all duties of a Graphic Designer I and provides team support and training, as needed.
+ Maintains brand and design standards and best practices, leverages new media and modern best practices to provide fresh approaches to projects. Conceptualizes, designs and produces a variety of communication and marketing materials that inspires and engages target audiences and reaches project goals. Produces materials that include logo development, brochures, infographics, event displays, signage, websites, social web pages, presentations and videos.
+ Develops and designs artwork and performs quality-control proofreading. Revises design until acceptable results are obtained. Selects photographs for print processing. Plans layouts and writes printing specifications, including paper stock, size and face of type, binding systems and multi-color reproductions. Manipulates and formats photographic images in digital formats for electronic and/or web-based documents and applications. Keeps informed of industry trends, best practices, comparative and competitive reviews and evolving technologies.
+ Consults with internal and external customers on project specifications, considering budget and end use. Performs special administrative projects as assigned. Works closely with production staff and outside vendors to assure quality of final product. Provides project management and client services in creating graphic materials and services for the city’s departments and the mayor’s office. Maintains print, video and photography relationships and quotes to produce creative materials on time and within budget.

Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
+ Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual arts, commercial art, or a related field and
+ 2 years of graphic design experience with a high level of proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite software.
Knowledge of:
+ computer usage including related software; and
+ branding best practices.
Ability to:
+ organize a busy workload with various deadlines and multiple internal clients;
+ be flexible in adjusting to changing priorities;
+ problem solve creatively;
+ remain composed and professional in stressful situations;
+ communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and
+ perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor, and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation
Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
+ 5 years of graphic and print design experience with a high level of proficiency in design software
+ Experience in designing for traditional (print) and non-traditional (digital, events and experiential) forms of media to connect with audiences
+ Two years of experience with Adobe Creative Suite software.
Preferred Knowledge of:
+ the web industry and web programming;
+ content-management software, WordPress, HTML, CSS, PHP and other web-related concepts; and
+ imposition software such as Imposition Wizard.
Licensing And Other Requirements
+ Valid state-issued driver’s license.

+ City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulations

While performing the duties of this job the employee is rarely lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.
