Bridgerland Technical College is seeking a Full-Time Heavy Equipment Operator Department Head to lead our Heavy Equipment Operator program in Logan, Utah. This exciting leadership opportunity allows you to shape the future of the industry by developing students, mentoring faculty, and ensuring our program remains aligned with evolving workforce needs. As the Department Head, you’ll oversee program operations, curriculum development, faculty support, industry partnerships, and student success initiatives while helping prepare the next generation of heavy equipment operators. This role combines leadership, instruction, and industry engagement in a dynamic, hands-on educational environment. About Bridgerland Technical College Bridgerland Technical College is one of Utah’s eight technical colleges. We provide high-quality, technical education to those in the Bear River Region. What You’ll Do As the Heavy Equipment Operator Department Head, you’ll provide leadership for the department while ensuring students receive high-quality, industry-relevant training. Department Leadership+ Administer daily operations of the Heavy Equipment Operator program.
+ Develop schedules and coordinate instructional staffing assignments.
+ Lead department meetings and maintain accurate records and documentation.
+ Prepare budget requests and manage departmental resources.
+ Evaluate program effectiveness and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
+ Maintain strong relationships with industry partners to ensure curriculum remains aligned with workforce needs.
+ Stay informed of industry trends, regulations, and technological advancements.
Instruction & Student Success+ Plan, develop, and deliver organized learning opportunities aligned with approved curriculum.
+ Supervise student safety in classroom, laboratory, and field-training environments.
+ Support student achievement through assessment, coaching, and academic guidance.
+ Monitor student attendance, progress, completion, and placement outcomes.
+ Assist graduates with employment opportunities and industry connections.
+ Ensure students develop the technical and professional skills required for career success.
Curriculum & Program Development+ Lead curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation efforts.
+ Ensure instructional materials and learning resources remain current and industry relevant.
+ Collaborate with faculty to identify staffing and instructional needs.
+ Promote innovative teaching strategies and student-centered learning experiences.
+ Support compliance with accreditation standards and program requirements.
Industry & Community Engagement+ Coordinate and participate in advisory committee meetings.
+ Represent the college with employers, industry organizations, and community partners.
+ Maintain partnerships that support student employment, internships, and workforce development opportunities.
+ Promote the program through recruitment activities, outreach events, and industry engagement.
Faculty Leadership+ Mentor, support, and develop departmental faculty and staff.
+ Assist with recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training of new employees.
+ Support performance evaluations and professional development initiatives.
+ Coordinate workload distribution and coverage during staff absences.
+ Foster a collaborative, positive, and student-focused team culture.
Resource & Facility Management+ Manage departmental budgets and ensure efficient use of resources.
+ Maintain equipment inventories and educational resources.
+ Coordinate equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement needs.
+ Ensure facilities, equipment, and instructional resources meet safety and operational standards.
+ Provide annual inventory and reporting information as required.
What We’re Looking For The ideal candidate is an experienced heavy equipment professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for education and workforce development. Preferred Qualifications+ Extensive experience operating heavy equipment in construction, excavation, earthmoving, or a related industry.
+ Previous leadership, supervisory, training, or teaching experience.
+ Strong understanding of industry safety regulations and best practices.
+ Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to effectively lead teams, mentor instructors, and support student success.
+ Experience with budgeting, resource management, and program administration.
+ Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
+ Commitment to continuous improvement and workforce readiness.
+ Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, industry partners, and community stakeholders.
+ Proficiency with business software and technology systems.
