The Idaho Department of Labor has an opening for an IT Software Engineer IV, who serves as a senior technical leader responsible for architecting and delivering complex software systems, mentoring engineers, and guiding technology decisions. Requires advanced software development experience, strong leadership skills, and a proven track record of successfully implementing enterprise scale solutions. The ideal candidate is a strong technical leader who is passionate about mentoring others, elevating engineering capabilities, and building high-performing development teams.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Provide technical leadership for the design, development, deployment, and support of enterprise software solutions.

+ Develop technology strategies that integrate multiple systems, platforms, and business needs.

+ Assess complex architectures and recommend scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.

+ Solve highly complex technical challenges and guide teams through critical design decisions.

+ Lead code reviews, architecture reviews, and adoption of engineering best practices.

+ Mentor, coach, and develop software engineers at all career stages, fostering technical growth and continuous learning.

+ Promote a collaborative engineering culture focused on quality, innovation, and professional development.

+ Evaluate new technologies and provide recommendations based on business value, ROI, and long-term sustainability.

+ This position includes leadership or supervisory responsibility for a small engineering team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Considerable Knowledge Of:

+ Data Architecture, software architecture, development and testing practices.

+ Multiple programming languages and software development tool suites.

Experience:

+ Providing technical leadership on teams developing large software projects.

+ Creating, interpreting and documenting user requirements.

+ Testing and deploying production systems.

+ Managing complex, enterprise/interdependent systems.

+ Supporting organizational transitions to new architectures, new development processes, performing cost/benefit analysis, analyzing buy vs build alternatives and strategic planning.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated Ability to:

+ Mentor, coach, and develop software engineers across varying levels of experience.

+ Provide technical leadership through code reviews, architectural guidance, and knowledge sharing.

+ Foster engineering excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

+ Influence technical standards and best practices across teams.

Experience:

+ Serving as a technical lead, team lead, or senior engineer with significant mentoring responsibilities.

+ In modern software engineering practices, including Agile methodologies, DevOps principles, CI/CD, and cloud-based solutions.

+ Designing, developing, and supporting enterprise applications using Microsoft technologies, including.NET, C#, and SQL Server.

+ Providing technical leadership on large-scale software development projects.

+ Creating and documenting business and user requirements.

+ Designing, testing, deploying, and supporting production systems.

+ Managing complex enterprise systems and supporting technology modernization efforts.

+ Performing cost-benefit analyses and evaluating strategic technology solutions.
