Job Description

The Material Handler safely loads, unloads, and moves materials within a large, modern warehouse using forklifts and related equipment. This role focuses on staging materials for the shear department, supporting saw operators, and maintaining accurate inventory flow while upholding high standards of safety, quality, and organization.

Responsibilities

+ Load, unload, and move materials within the warehouse using a forklift or side loader in a safe and efficient manner.

+ Read and interpret work orders to determine which materials need to be moved, and prioritize tasks based on due dates and production requirements.

+ Take material from storage racks and stage it accurately in the shear department for saw operators, ensuring the correct material is available when needed.

+ Install strapping, bracing, or other securing methods on loads to prevent shifting or damage during transport within the facility.

+ Perform in-process quality inspections on all material as it is pulled and transported to the shear department, verifying accuracy and condition.

+ Provide complete work orders and required documentation to shear operators along with the correct material, ensuring smooth workflow and traceability.

+ Return remnant stock to the proper storage locations after orders have been cut, maintaining accurate inventory organization.

+ Keep aisles, areas between racks, and workspaces clear and organized to support safe and efficient transport of materials.

+ Use saws and other tools such as staple guns and nail guns for packing and building custom-sized pallets when needed.

+ Assist with general warehouse operations including loading, packing, inventory support, and other material handling tasks as assigned.

+ Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors to resolve issues, improve processes, and maintain a drama-free, respectful work environment.

+ Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, actively contribute to a strong safety culture, and promptly report any hazards or concerns.

Essential Skills

+ Experience working in a warehouse environment, including basic understanding of warehouse operations and material flow.

+ Forklift operation experience or the ability and willingness to learn safe operation of forklifts and side loaders.

+ Demonstrated safety mindset with a strong focus on following safety procedures and maintaining a safe work area.

+ Ability to read and follow work orders and written instructions accurately.

+ Comfort using saws and hand tools such as staple guns and nail guns for packing and building custom pallets.

+ Ability to cooperate with others and work effectively as part of a team.

+ Strong communication and basic problem-solving skills to address issues as they arise.

+ Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic, with a commitment to honesty and integrity.

+ Willingness to perform general labor tasks including loading, packing, and inventory-related activities.

+ Commitment to maintaining a drama-free workplace and treating others with dignity, respect, and kindness.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Prior warehouse and forklift experience is a strong plus.

+ Experience with inventory handling, packing, or general material handling is beneficial.

+ Comfort working with production equipment in a manufacturing or aerospace-related environment.

+ Attention to cleanliness and organization in work areas.

+ Openness to feedback and continuous improvement, especially around process efficiency and safety.

+ Interest in long-term career growth within a production and milling environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a 63,000-square-foot production facility serving the aerospace industry. The environment is clean, organized, and open, which supports safe and efficient forklift operations and material flow. The facility currently operates multiple mills and saws, with additional equipment being added to support growth and create further promotion opportunities. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Spokane Valley, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 – $19.25/hr.
