Job Description
Gem State Staffing in Pocatello are seeking a skilled and dependable CDL Class A Heavy Equipment / Maintenance Technician to support canal, irrigation, and water system operations. This role combines CDL driving, heavy equipment operation, construction maintenance, and irrigation system repair.

Requirements
· Valid CDL Class A License (required and must be maintained)
· Experience operating and transporting equipment such as:
· Dump trucks, trailers, flatbeds, lowboys, decks
· Skid steers, mini excavators, loaders, backhoes
· Dozers, winch trucks, and similar heavy equipment
· Ability to safely load, unload, haul, and maneuver equipment
· Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
· Ability to lift, dig, repair, and perform physical labor as needed
· Willingness to work in and around water systems using proper PPE (waders/boots, safety gear)
· Ability to pass pre-employment screening
Primary Duties
· Operate and maintain heavy equipment used for canal, ditch, and irrigation system maintenance
· Perform excavation, grading, backfilling, and compaction work
· Clean, repair, and maintain canals, laterals, ditches, siphons, pipes, and culverts
· Repair and maintain headgates, pumps, measurement devices, and water control structures
· Perform emergency repairs on canal banks, roads, gates, and structures
· Load, transport, and secure heavy equipment and materials
· Maintain ditch roads, access roads, and right-of-way areas
· Perform basic welding, fabrication, and equipment repair
· Assist with carpentry, concrete work, fencing, and general maintenance tasks
· Apply herbicide/weed control (chemical applicator license preferred or ability to obtain)
· Remove debris, clear waterways, and support irrigation flow systems
· Perform equipment inspections and routine maintenance
· Keep accurate maintenance and safety records
· Support or substitute as Ditch Rider when needed
Experience Preferred In
· Heavy Equipment Operation (excavators, loaders, dozers, backhoes)
· CDL Truck Driving (dump trucks, flatbeds, hauling equipment)
· Irrigation / Canal / Ditch Maintenance
· Construction or Civil Maintenance Work
· Farming or Agricultural Water Systems
· Excavation, grading, and site prep
· Welding and fabrication
· Carpentry or general construction repair
· Soil, drainage, or water flow management
Preferred Background
Candidates with experience in:
· Agriculture / Farming irrigation systems
· Civil construction or roadway maintenance
· Equipment operation and hauling
· Utility or public works maintenance
· Engineering technician or soil/water conservation work
