The Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections (IDJC) is currently seeking a full-time Rehabilitation Technician II to fill an opening at our JCC-Saint Anthony Facility.

This positions incumbent must meet federal Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Juvenile Facility Standards and must never have been the subject of the following: Been the perpetrator of sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution; Been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; Been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse. Had allegations substantiated against oneself for an incident(s) of sexual harassment, sexual abuse, and/or child abuse against another person; Resigned from a job where I was the subject of a pending investigation being conducted for an allegation of sexual abuse against another person.

Position Summary:

The Rehabilitation Technician 2 (RT2) provides a full range of rehabilitative and therapeutic services for youth in IDJC custody, supervising daily activities and ensuring a safe, secure, and therapeutic living environment. RT2s are expected to demonstrate consistent leadership at the line-staff level, including active program facilitation, staff mentorship, and independent decision-making in support of safety and rehabilitation goals.

As the third level in the Rehabilitation Technician job family, RT2s perform advanced duties beyond the trainee and Level I classifications. Incumbents are paraprofessionals with broad knowledge of agency programs and are responsible for youth supervision, treatment interventions, safety and security, and accurate documentation. They are fully proficient in facility rehabilitation programs and deliver curriculum to youth and new staff, while also mentoring, training, and consulting with unit personnel.

Minimum Position Requirements: · Applicants must meet entrance requirements and become certified by the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Academy for the Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections. Considerable knowledge of: · I ndividual and group behavior of youth, typically gained by 3 years of experience or combination of education and experience of recreational activities for youth, typically gained by 3 years of experience, but may be combined with education or specialized certifications of the full range of IDJC specialized juvenile rehabilitation programs in the state facility in which they work, which may include facilitating certain aspects of program. Experience: · Teaching program curriculum to juveniles, as well as new staff; · Instilling values and motivating youth in learning positive life skills. · Training and mentoring unit staff · Using a personal computer for online records. Preferred Qualifications: Some knowledge of: · strategies or training for mentoring and/or coaching new staff. · facility safety and security procedures, specifically related to room searches, transport (routine and emergency), and physical plant checks, typically gained by 3 years of experience working in a juvenile corrections facility. Experience:

· demonstrating leadership in a direct-care setting, including facilitating group processes, mentoring peers, and making independent operational decisions.

Willingness to: · deal with violence, harassment, threats, verbal abuse; break up fights, control disturbances, and physically restrain offenders; perform searches for contraband and weapons. · work alone unarmed among unrestricted offenders. · work in secure/locked facility in confined spaces. · learn and follow department policies, procedures, rules, and instructions. · set aside personal prejudices and be fair. · work in high-stress, hostile environments.

· transport juveniles.

· become a certified FTO (Field Training Officer). · train and mentor new staff members according to the Facility FTO Manual.

Special Skills/Equipment:

Ability to work effectively with diverse juvenile populations under stressful situations. Equipment used includes keys, two-way radio, restraint devices, metal detectors, phone, copier, computer, fax, camera, van / automobile, TV / VCR / DVD player.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to observe, hear, and communicate effectively with juveniles, respond to assaultive or aggressive behavior, and provide physical assistance in emergencies, including fire evacuations, accidents, and administering First Aid/CPR.

Employees must be able to perform the following duties, with or without reasonable accommodation:

+ Active supervision – Stand and walk for most of the workday (50-75%) while facilitating classes, supervising movement, conducting searches, and overseeing activities inside and outside the facility.

+ Stationary monitoring – Sit for extended periods (5-25%) when assigned to secure booths or pod supervision, completing documentation, log entries, and computer communication.

+ Physical tasks – Lift, carry, push, pull, climb stairs, and perform bending, kneeling, and reaching required for room searches, moving equipment, and assisting with restraints.

+ Communication and observation – Meet IDJC POST standards for hearing and vision; communicate clearly to support movement, de-escalation, and safety; observe behavior to prevent conflicts.

+ Documentation skills – Read, write, and understand reports, policies, assessments, and other required documentation.

+ Safe physical intervention – Apply ARCON control techniques and mechanical restraints (handcuffs, shackles) when necessary to safely restrain juveniles.

+ Recreation participation – Model and engage in physical education and outdoor recreational activities.

+ Emergency response – Perform First Aid and CPR as required.

Working Conditions:

· Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and is not always protected from weather and temperature changes.

· Work with violent and aggressive juvenile offenders.

· Subject to noise levels above that of the normal talking level.

· Subject to one or more of the following conditions: fumes, odors, dust, mist, gases or poor ventilation.

· Work in small and enclosed rooms, narrow aisles or passageways.

· Could be exposed to infectious diseases or body fluids.

· Position requires the ability to effectively perform during high-activity operational periods, including direct engagement in youth programming and group facilitation. Essential Job Functions: (Essential Job Functions are in bold type.)
