Summary The Department of the Interior is devoted to protecting and preserving the natural resources of this great nation, including National Parks, Landmarks, and the well-being of communities, including those of Native American, Alaska Natives and affiliated Islanders. Responsibilities This position is located within the Department of the Interior, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Southeast Idaho National Wildlife Refuge Complex in Hammer, Idaho. At the full performance level (GS-11) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Reviews land and aquatic conservation activities, habitat development, clean-up, contaminant and restoration projects, research studies, population studies, wildlife inventory, and monitoring activities to include species lifecycle requirements and management. Prepares Special Use Permits, as needed, for activities such as grazing, planting and harvesting hay or other crops, wildlife and ecological research, and/or commercial filming. Participates with the Wildlife Refuge Manager and other senior management or agency specialists in the development and review of site plans and designs. Assists the Wildlife Refuge Manager and other senior management in the development of long-range plans, annual work plans, budgets and work schedules. This position is suitable for telework only during and emergency or natural disaster. Salary Information GS-09: $61,722 – $80,243 per annum. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level. This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available. Qualifications Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position you must meet the (1) Basic Educational Requirements AND (2) Specialized Experience for the series to which you are applying. (1) Basic Educational Requirements: Degree: zoology, wildlife management, or an appropriate field of biology that included at least nine (9) semester hours in zoology; six (6) semester hours in such wildlife courses as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, or wildlife management; and three (3) semester hours in botany, and three (3) semester hours in conservation biology OR Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in one of the fields as described in A above that included at least nine (9) semester hours in zoology; six (6) semester hours in such wildlife courses as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, or wildlife management; and three (3) semester hours in botany, and three (3) semester hours in conservation biology. (2) Specialized Experience To qualify for the 09, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the 07 level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: (1) assisting with wildlife refuge or natural resource management activities such as conducting wildlife or habitat surveys; (2) collecting and maintaining biological data; and (3) implementing habitat restoration or conservation projects. Must meet all. OR 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or master’s or equivalent graduate degree. OR A combination of graduate level education and experience.
