Job Description

This role involves performing all phases of residential construction from framing through finish work on high-end custom homes. You will read and interpret blueprints, schedules, and construction details, complete advanced layout tasks, and execute complex elements such as roof framing, stair construction, and window and door installation. You will support project leadership with crew coordination and project execution while maintaining safe, organized jobsites and protecting completed work to ensure installation quality meets established standards. The position also includes mentoring and supervising apprentices and trainees, assisting with planning and material staging, and ensuring all work follows manufacturer installation requirements and best practices.

Responsibilities

+ Perform all phases of residential construction from framing through finish carpentry on high-end custom homes.

+ Read and interpret blueprints, schedules, and detailed construction documents to plan and execute work accurately.

+ Complete advanced layout, roof framing, stair construction, and window and door installation to a high standard of craftsmanship.

+ Install drywall and finish materials with attention to detail and quality.

+ Assist Foremen and Superintendents with daily crew coordination and overall project execution.

+ Maintain safe, clean, and organized jobsites, following established safety practices at all times.

+ Protect completed work from damage and ensure all installations meet company quality standards.

+ Train, mentor, and supervise Apprentice carpenters and Carpenter Trainees to support their skill development.

+ Assist with project planning, including material staging, equipment usage, and meeting productivity goals.

+ Ensure manufacturer installation requirements are followed and adhere to company best practices on every task.

+ Use carpentry hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently to complete assigned work.

Essential Skills

+ At least 5 years of full-time carpentry construction experience.

+ At least 2 years of experience in high-end luxury home construction.

+ Strong proficiency in residential carpentry from framing through finish work.

+ Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schedules, and construction details accurately.

+ Demonstrated skill in advanced layout, roof framing, stair construction, and window and door installation.

+ Proven experience using carpentry hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.

+ Capability to maintain safe and organized jobsites while protecting completed work.

+ Experience mentoring or supervising apprentices or carpenter trainees.

+ Commitment to following manufacturer installation requirements and company best practices.

+ Carpentry license or equivalent professional qualification, if applicable.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience working on architecturally significant, custom residential projects.

+ Experience in drywall installation and finish work.

+ Ability to assist with crew coordination and project planning alongside Foremen and Superintendents.

+ Comfort working in a team-oriented environment focused on craftsmanship and professional growth.

+ Interest in leadership development through mentoring and crew supervision.

+ Open to candidates with Apprentice-level carpentry experience, provided there is a strong foundation in core carpentry skills.

Work Environment

Work takes place on high-end residential construction sites in a fast-growing Montana market, focusing on custom and architecturally significant homes. The environment involves active construction settings where carpenters use a variety of hand tools and power tools, coordinate closely with Foremen, Superintendents, and crew members, and adhere to strict safety and quality standards. Daily work includes both framing and finish tasks, advanced structural and architectural details, and maintaining clean, organized job areas suitable for luxury home construction.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Big Sky, MT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $34.00 – $42.00/hr.
