The Grocery Manager is responsible for overseeing all operations of the grocery department, ensuring that shelves are fully stocked, displays are appealing, pricing is accurate, and customers receive outstanding service. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the standards of Lee’s Marketplace and contributes to overall store profitability through effective inventory control, merchandising, and leadership of the grocery team

Primary Position Duties:
? Key Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Lead the daily operations of the grocery department, including center store, bulk, canned goods, beverages, and packaged foods.
+ Supervise, train, schedule, and develop grocery team members to ensure high levels of performance and service.
+ Monitor inventory levels and place accurate orders to maintain in-stock conditions while minimizing overstock and shrink.
+ Ensure shelves are faced, rotated, organized, and cleaned according to company standards.
+ Implement and maintain promotional and seasonal displays with a focus on visual appeal and sales impact.
+ Oversee product receiving, back stock organization, and efficient stocking procedures.
+ Maintain accurate signage and pricing to ensure compliance and a smooth shopping experience.
+ Uphold and enforce all company policies, food safety standards, and local health regulations.
+ Monitor department sales, margins, and labor to meet performance goals and identify growth opportunities.
+ Collaborate with Store Director/Assistant Store Director and other department managers to support storewide initiatives and events.
+ Maintain effective control of store inventories in line with established budgets and guidelines.
Guest Service:
+ Greet and assist guests in a friendly and courteous manner.
+ Provide knowledgeable answers to guest inquiries.
+ Address customer complaints and inquiries in a professional manner, resolving issues promptly.
+ Promote and exemplify a high level of morale within the store, utilizing friendly but professional methods of honest and open communication with guests and team members.
+ Provides excellent guest service by acknowledging guests promptly and resolving matters accurately.
+ Prepares and processes the guest’s requests promptly and finalizes their purchase in a friendly manner.
+ Displays excellent problems solving skills and prides themselves on finding the best resolution that exemplifies the “Lee’s Way- doing what’s best for our guests, our team, and our company”.
+ Be familiar with, and assist customers with use of, Lee’s Marketplace website.
Community Engagement:
+ Foster relationships with local vendors and community organizations to enhance store presence and customer loyalty.
+ Participate in community events and promotions to drive traffic to the store.
Product Handling:
+ Stock shelves and maintain displays according to store standards. Oversee product placement and merchandising efforts to enhance the shopping experience.
+ Ensure product freshness by watching for, and teaching team members to watch for, quality in production, rotating stock and checking expiration dates.
+ Assist in unloading deliveries and organizing stock rooms as needed.
+ Package and label products using a computer program.
+ Analyze sales data to identify trends and develop strategies to improve performance and achieve sales goals.
+ Monitor inventory levels, manage ordering processes, and minimize shrinkage.
+ Assist in conducting regular inventory audits to ensure accuracy and availability of products.
Cleanliness and Safety:
+ Maintain a clean and organized work area.
+ Follow and implement all safety and sanitation procedures.
+ Report any safety hazards or equipment issues to management.
+ Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations, including maintain a valid food handlers permit.
+ Maintains full knowledge of all company safety and accident prevention policies. Ensure safety of all team members through proper training and follow-up of safety policies. Responsible for accident reporting for team members as well as guest accidents in a timely manner.
Cash Handling:
+ Willing to assist the Frontend by being a back up Cashier during rushes
+ Operate POS system efficiently and accurately.
+ Confidently accept various forms of payment, including cash, card, check, WIC, and EBT
+ Follow store policies on coupons, returns, exchanges, and refunds.
+ Ensure the security of cash and other financial transactions. Handle money responsibly, including drawer counts and change accuracy.
+ Uses POS and register system only when directed by the Frontend Manager/Supervisor.
+ Works scheduled rotational shifts in the self-checkout area, monitoring guest transactions, providing assistance as needed, and remaining alert to prevent theft or misuse of the equipment.
Department Financial Management:
+ Track daily, weekly, and monthly sales to ensure targets are met and identify areas for improvement.
+ Implement strategies to minimize product loss through proper rotation, handling, and accurate inventory management.
+ Create efficient schedules that align with sales forecasts and labor budgets, ensuring productivity without overspending.
+ Conduct regular inventory counts and maintain accurate records to control costs and avoid overstocking or shortages.
+ Ensure products are priced correctly to maintain profitability while staying competitive and in alignment with company pricing strategies.
+ Order grocery products strategically to meet demand and prevent excess inventory, while working with vendors to ensure cost-effective purchasing.
+ Review department financial statements, such as profit and loss reports, to assess performance and make informed decisions.
+ Contribute to annual department budget planning and help manage expenses throughout the year.
+ Monitor and reconcile department sales, shrink, and waste reports regularly.
+ Approve and oversee markdowns, discounts, and department promotions.
+ Assist with reconciling discrepancies in inventory or pricing as needed.
+ Train staff on proper weighing, pricing, and labeling procedures to maintain accuracy.
Team Collaboration:
+ Work cooperatively and communicate effectively with team members to achieve store goals.
+ Encourage all team members to reach the highest level of teamwork and guest service at all times. Communicate and support the Lee’s MarketPlace Mission statement and Core Values
+ Work closely with the Store Director/Asst. Store Director and other department managers to ensure cohesive store operations.
+ Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
+ Assist other departments as needed.
+ Work in a fast-paced, sometimes crowded, sales environment with tact and patience.
+ Work with team to ensure products are sold well before their expiration date.
+ Attends departmental, store and company meetings as required; contributes to profits and revenues and meets productivity standards.
