Description
The North Idaho College Basic Patrol Academy is a 16-week, full-time program designed to prepare students for a career as a patrol peace officer. The Academy includes training and instruction by local law enforcement and highly-qualified professionals, and covers a wide range of topics from Patrol Procedure, Crime Scene Investigation, and Homeland Security, to Firearms, Building Search, and Defensive Tactics. Students learn important skills in various settings, which include the classroom, mat room, and off-site locations. Applicants must complete an in-depth background check, pass physical fitness tests, and meet specific Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) criteria in order to be accepted. Upon graduation, students earn a Basic Technical Certificate and are eligible for hire by Idaho law enforcement agencies.
Those interested in furthering their education in Law Enforcement may also earn an Intermediate Technical Certificate or Associate of Applied Science Degree by taking one to three semesters of NIC classes before (or after) attending the Academy.
